Facebook Timeline is coming

In the next couple of weeks Facebook is rolling out a new profile called Timeline to all users. The new profile makes it easier to see a person’s friends, their recent activity and status updates. One of the main changes is that Timeline helps friends and users to browse through someone’s old status updates, comments and wall posts. As predicted, with any major change it seems that the new Facebook Timeline profile has caused something of an uproar amongst users.

For example, did you know that….

  • By default all your posts will be public
  • Once you have moved over to Timeline you have seven days to review your profile and privacy settings before it goes live.

Set time aside to review your privacy settings

If you’ve been active on Facebook for a couple of years then it may be a good idea to take a bit of time to look back at your old updates  and see if you’ve previously posted something that you now wouldn’t want anyone to see. To access your privacy settings, simply click on the little arrow in the top right hand corner next to ‘Home’.

From here you can control and edit your posting and default settings.

It’s also easy to edit or remove old posts on your Timeline. Hover in the top right hand corner of a post until you see the pencil and then you will have the option to either edit or remove the post.

It might also be timely to have a look at your other privacy settings. It’s always a good idea anyway to periodically review your settings such as which apps you have given access to, photo tags settings and the settings for how you connect to other people (see below).

There are three options to choose ‘Friends’, ‘Friends of Friends’ and ‘Everyone’.  Always select the option you are most comfortable with and remember you can amend the setting later if you wish.

I’m convinced with the roll out of  the Facebook Timeline to personal profiles that it won’t be long before Timeline starts appearing for business pages.
