Is it time for a social media workout?
Sometimes it’s difficult to keep up with everything – projects, clients, unscheduled meetings, and still have time for weekends. Suddenly your social media is out of control and you find that all the careful planning you had done has gone out of the window.

Recently I caught up with a couple of close friends, both serious runners, and while listening to their training schedules I started thinking about how the same approach can be used for a social media workout
Social media workout
Have a goal.
When you have a target in your sight it’s incredible how much more focused and determined you will be. So set yourself a goal and a date when you’ll achieve it by E.g. Increase web traffic by x% by end of September. Or, maybe your own personal goal is to have a social media schedule and stick to it for the next three months. When you come to measure how you’ve done. If you want to achieve your own Personal Best (PB) then don’t forget to record where you started.
Plan.
Take time to think about the type of content that you’re going to post or write. If you are someone who needs some inspiration then follow some of your industry leading bloggers or have a look at Pinterest – they do say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
Consistency.
It’s important to ‘work out’ regularly but don’t forget to take a tip from a top athlete and vary your ‘social workout’. Also, top sportsmen have rest days, so why shouldn’t you? Just remember to plan them based on your goals and your content plan.
Other workout tips
If there are more than one of you involved in your social media then it helps to sort out who is going to be responsible for what parts of the social media schedule and when you will pass the baton over. Try using something like Hootsuite Pro to help you keep track of who is replying and asnwering questions on Twitter.
Importantly, like any sportsman, when you succeed – celebrate!
Do you have any tips for managing your social media workout?
